On January 22, 8 years ago, my daughter Noa was born. She loves Toothless and Sky Witch and wanted me to make her a card.
What materials did I use
I used the mother of pearl cards from the action for this.
I always have a stock of these at home, so you can always make cards for any occasion and they are not expensive at all.
They are firm and smooth and perfect for working with the alcohol markers.
As I said above, I also used the alcohol markers from the action to color the drawing.
These markers (Twin markers from Decotime) are also fantastic in terms of price/quality! And super fun to work with.
Only disadvantage, you always have to buy them in packages, for example you cannot buy the blend marker or 1 specific color separately. You also have to be quick once they are for sale because they sell out quickly. But what do you want for the price of 1 alcohol marker (+- 6 euros) you have a set of 28 in the action.
The photo shows the available sets. You can also buy some colors per 2.
The online tutorial I used
Yes, according to many people I can draw well, but I am not able to copy from memory either. Maybe I should have drawn everything 100 times, but I haven’t. So I also need a good tutorial and I found it here .
Of course taking forgotten photos again…
I would forget my head if it weren’t attached. The same song every time. Halfway through my work I remember that I think I should take pictures for my blog because it could be a nice piece.
Someday I will manage to take a photo of every step. But for that, my hobby is also my outlet and not something I do specifically for this blog.
As you can see, I have already started coloring my drawing in the first photo. I don’t have a photo of how the drawing was made, but you can clearly see it in the tutorial above.
When coloring the sky shrew I used the white metallic marker from Decotime and the silver (gray metallic).
The eyes were colored with 3 types of blue and I used the colorless blender to blend all the colors into each other.
I also used the blend marker in combination with silver gray for the shadows.
The white marker was then used again to add reflections and light accents.
I did the black accents and outline with an old alcohol-based CD marker.
Once Hemelfeeks was finished, I started coloring Toothless.
As always, I always start with the light colors and highlights.
I did the eyes of Toothless in the same way as those of Hemelfeeks but with yellow and green. Use the blending pen again to make everything flow and mix nicely.
I colored Toothless myself with Silver and metallic Black. Highlights with metallic white.
It takes a bit of searching and you will still see lines and stripes in the drawing, but that will diminish in the final steps.
When you color, be sure to take lighter parts into account. Darkening is always possible, lightening is less easy.
The Finish
The last step is to outline and apply the shadows. I did this again with my old CD marker and the blend marker.
The dark spots in Toothless were made by making a small black dot with the CD marker and rubbing it open with the blend marker.
Top up the highlights where necessary with the blend pen or white marker and FINISHED.
