Hello everyone, this is where my adventure begins with my first sewing machine, …

This end of the year my husband asked me again what I would like to receive as a gift. I had always wanted to have a sewing machine (just for repairs and stuff,…) so I told him so.

No sooner said than done, the next few days I diligently looked for a nice sewing machine. But this could not be too expensive and still had to be sufficiently efficient. I also wanted an electronic one, not a mechanical one.

Eventually I ended up with 3 sewing machines, all from Brother. The FS-20 (the cheapest), the FS-40 (the middle size) and the DS-140 (a slightly more expensive one and the successor to the FS-40)

My choice ultimately became the FS-40. And that appears to be a good choice so far.

I also quickly put together a sewing box with the most necessary materials.

You should also know that I am now about 33 weeks pregnant with a son, and I already have a 3-year-old daughter (Jan. 22). So I don’t have many clothes and boyish things, also the bedding and such are usually girl-minded.

So the first project I had in mind was the new upholstery for my crib. I purchased these fabrics for this purpose.

But as a layman behind the sewing machine, I also had enormous fear of starting something with new fabrics. So to practice I first cut up some old clothes and made a dress for my daughter. (This was completely without a pattern, just to get a feel for my sewing machine)

This is the result. At least she was very happy with it 🙂

Well, this is where I’m going to end this message, because otherwise it would be a bit too much prose in one message :-). In the next post I will discuss my first major project, my crib cover.
