The time has come: the baby sleeping bag is completely finished! After yesterday’s busy session with the bias tape and the zipper, there was still one big task on the agenda today: inserting the sleeves and applying the press studs. Spoiler: that was easier said than done!

Insert the sleeves

Putting in a sleeve is a horror scenario for many beginners — and I can confirm that reputation is well-deserved. After a lot of fiddling, the first sleeve was finally in place, with the accompanying mitten cap.

Applying snaps: an expensive lesson

Then the snaps. I had colorful onescolor snaps (cam snaps)bought it and wanted to apply it to the fleece. What I didn’t know:cam snaps and fleece don’t go together. The pliers simply pull holes in the fabric. The solution: first iron on fleece line as reinforcement, and then switch tojersey snaps. These are specially made for stretchy fabrics such as fleece. But first I had to put one in the wrong place and pry it out again — frustrationeeee!

⚠️ Tip: cam snaps in fleece

Do not use cam snaps (color snaps) directly in fleece— they pull holes. First reinforce the fleece with interfacing and choosejersey snaps.

The end result

After all that fiddling and frustration, there was a fully finished baby sleeping bag on the table. Light blue fleece, bias tape from the matching star fabric, and three star appliqués that I cut from the leftover crib cover fabric. Not stitched straight everywhere, but still quite proud for the very first time!

Until the next project! 🙂
