As mentioned in my previous post, I was going to talk about making the crib lining for my son, who would be born in early March. This was my first major sewing project, and it’s still one I’m proud of.

The crib cover pattern is at my patterns and documents.

Substances and starting point

I had already shown the fabrics in my previous post, but here again briefly: I bought them at onlinestoffen.nl. Very fast shipping and well packaged, so I will definitely order from there again.

The crib is a Celine crib on stand, bought second hand. It came with upholstery, but it was worn and the wadding line was in wads. In the photo of the sellers it seemed not too bad, but at home the difference was very clear.

When I saw the upholstery on the crib at home, the disappointment could not have been greater. So I immediately looked for beautiful fabrics and a usable pattern and started working on it.

Making process (compact overview)

  • Pattern worked out and parts prepared.
  • First flap fully stitched.
  • Parts of the upholstery stitched together.
  • First part completed: a major milestone.

First part done, and yes: sooooo proud of myself 😀

Finishing and end result

The crib was not yet ready for a baby, so I continued with additional finishing touches: decorations and a mattress cover in molton (without pattern). This was followed by the blanket and the final details.

I think it was a great success, if I say so myself. I think my son could dream away in this.
