Yes, I know — I am not sticking to my to-do list. But this fabric makes me so happy, and my daughter absolutely loves it.
After a bit of searching, I found a nice free pattern for this hoodie. Today I cut the pattern and prepared all fabric pieces — tomorrow I will make my first real attempt at sewing the sweater. TOI TOI TOI!
The fabric

This is the fabric — bright pink stretch fabric with the funniest print. Kittens in every pose. I simply could not leave it behind.
It is soft enough for a child to wear comfortably and it stretches nicely. Perfect for a hoodie!
Cutting the pattern and adding seam allowance
First I cut out the pattern and pin it to the fabric. I always use a Prym Trickmarker together with a seam gauge to mark seam allowance quickly — super fast and very accurate.

Cutting all pieces

All pieces are cut: front and back panel, both sleeves and the hood. Everything is ready and neatly laid out.
I am crossing my fingers — I think this is the hardest thing I have tried so far!
Sewing everything together
Pin all pieces together, then sew. Exciting!

Making the hood
The hood is the most challenging part. Sew two pieces together, turn them inside out, then attach the hood to the sweater. Finished with a black cord lock for the hood strings.

And little miss sunshine already wanted to wear it without the sweater, haha!

The result
One day later and a bit more sewing done — the sweater is almost assembled, with only the zipper and finishing left. The holes for the hood cords were finished with Vario pliers.

Hopefully it will be completely finished tonight! 🙂
Machine I used for this: Brother FS-40 sewing machine.
